​​The Facebook algorithm change is the thing that makes or breaks a affiliate marketers heart.

​The question always left in the marketers mind is, “what do we do with the new facebook algorithm change”? The change in the facebook algorithm this time is really going hurt your marketing, this time on pages.

As if we needed any more changes, the new facebook algorithm change is a huge setback for all marketers and publishers.

Why? Well according to facebook’s recent article titled “News Feed FYI: Bringing People Closer Together” the change is meant to go back to the grass roots of why facebook started in the first place.

​The facebook algorithm change is as the title of their article meant to “bring people closer together”.

​Here’s a quote –

Today we use signals like how many people react to, comment on or share posts to determine how high they appear in News Feed.
With this update, we will also prioritize posts that spark conversations and meaningful interactions between people. To do this, we will predict which posts you might want to interact with your friends about, and show these posts higher in feed. These are posts that inspire back-and-forth discussion in the comments and posts that you might want to share and react to – whether that’s a post from a friend seeking advice, a friend asking for recommendations for a trip, or a news article or video prompting lots of discussion. We will also prioritize posts from friends and family over public content, consistent with our News Feed values.

This literally effects my business, your business, and everyone who does business using facebook. So say goodbye to free advertisement using your facebook page and say hello to facebook ad spend going up. If you aren’t spending money on ads then you will be. If you want to stay relevant you will be spending money on ads.

​Now, the question is probably looming in that steaming head of yours “are there any work arounds for this”?

​Not really, but we will find a way (cue evil laugh). Sorry to say jack, you are at the mercy of facebook for the most part when it comes to this facebook algorithm change. But you are able to create better content. If you remember the last article I wrote here you would have known that in the traditional newsfeed for your personal account the algorithm changed as well to prevent engagement bait posts from being seen and even hurting your “good reputation” score by facebook.

​Facebook algorithm changes will exists as long as facebook is alive and kicking. New Facebook Algorithm Kills Affiliate Marketers Engagement?

Facebook just rolled out it’s new algorithm for posts that can kill your engagement. With its recent crackdown, it can spell disaster for your business.

The new algorithm facebook implemented is designed to crackdown on what is known as “engagement bait”.

In a blog post by facebook they explain that posts that attempt to encourage blatant “reactions” such as a like, “voting”, and “shares”, it will now downgrade and penalize the organic reach of your posts.

So what does this mean now for affiliate marketers?

We’ve all done it, and seen it. I know I’m guilty.

“If you want to learn how to make x comment below”

Or “if you want to get info like this post and share it”

Well according to facebook these types of post will cost you.

According to a recent arstechnica.com article,

“The company defines engagement bait posts as any that encourage interaction to “artificially boost engagement” and glean more reach on the site—posts that say, “Like this post if you’re an Aries or Love this if you’re a Leo,” and other spam-like messages.Facebookhas reviewed and categorized thousands of posts like this so it could update its news feed algorithm to identify engagement bait posts and demote them on your news feed.”

Now while this is meant for the more clickbait style pages and posts, this certainly falls into the category where affiliate marketers will be affected. I can prove it.

So now what does this mean for us affiliate marketers looking to squeeze as much free traffic from social media?

Our focus needs to be on Better content!

Our marketing need to give More value!

And Video now will be more important than ever.

This is how we will win. If we focus on helping our audience with more value we won’t have to worry.

Let’s face it, it was bound to happen. It is time to step up our game and not hedge all our bets on Facebook and their new algorithms.

Here are 3 things we can do right now to keep engagement up and our affiliate marketing flourishing.

  1. Be authentic. Forget about asking for likes and shares. Facebook wants genuine people providing genuine content with real world value
  2. Do research. See what your audience cares about. Talk about what they care about.
  3. Solve problems. Pay attention to what your demographic are struggling with and let them know you’ve found a solution. Heck you might even get paid in the process.

So is this the end for promoting on facebook? Surely not. It’s time to create even better content and ine above the rest.
